Cobalt Celebrates Opening Day for the 2026 Colorado General Assembly

Denver – As the 2026 General Assembly convenes today, Cobalt welcomes new members and the opportunity for Colorado to solidify its place as a model and national leader on abortion access.

“Even as abortion rights and access continue to be under attack nationally, Colorado has demonstrated leadership and created a national model for abortion care since Dobbs,” said Cobalt President Karen Middleton. “Thanks to Colorado voters on Amendment 79 and policy leaders at the Capitol, we continue to ensure that patients can seek the care they need and providers can offer it, without political interference or cost barriers. We should be very proud of that as a state.”

In this legislative session, Cobalt anticipates collaborating with legislators on bills strengthening data privacy and turning back any attempts to ban or restrict abortion care.

“It is fundamental to our shared values as Coloradans that bodily autonomy is a human right, abortion is health care, and health care must be equitable and available for all,” concluded Middleton. “We look forward to reinforcing those values in the 2026 General Assembly.”
