Amendment 79 Won Majority of Votes in Republican Districts
Denver – Colorado Republican Representatives currently opposing SB 183, the bill putting the Right to Abortion Amendment 79 into effect, are opposing the will of their own voters. In addition to winning with 62% of the vote statewide, data shows that Amendment 79 won a majority in numerous Republican House Districts.
For example, Rep Rebecca Keltie won by three votes in the closely contested HD 16 race. Amendment 79 won that district with 59%, well over the 55% threshold needed for a Constitutional ballot measure.
Specifically, Amendment 79 won with the following percentages in the following districts:
HD 15, Colorado Springs, Rep Scott Bottoms: 52%
HD 16, Colorado Springs, Rep Rebecca Keltie: 59%
HD 21, Colorado Springs, Rep Mary Bradfield: 55%
HD 22, Colorado Springs, Rep Ken DeGraaf: 51%
HD 39, Douglas County, Rep Brandi Bradley: 54%
HD 55, Grand Junction, Rep Rick Taggart: 52%
Editors’ Note: Data based on precinct level results from the Colorado Secretary of State’s office, which were then aggregated into Colorado State House and Senate Districts.
