COBALT APPLAUDS COLORADO US HOUSE MEMBERS WHO VOTED FOR TWO ABORTION RIGHTS BILLS TODAY

Denver – Cobalt, a grassroots abortion and reproductive rights advocacy organization representing thousands of Coloradans statewide, today applauded the Colorado House Members who voted for two abortion rights bills today.

The Women’s Health Protection Act (HR 8296), puts protections for abortion rights into federal law, which is critical after the Supreme Court has overturned Roe v. Wade. The Ensuring Access to Abortion Act (H.R. 8297), affirms the right to travel to access abortion care.

According to Cobalt President Karen Middleton, “Colorado is a state that has long supported abortion rights, rights that are now protected in state law with the Reproductive Health Equity Act. Both these federal bills are critical to reinforcing that protection in federal law.

Patients traveling to Colorado should not be afraid to seek the abortion care they need and deserve. We must also continue to shield healthcare professionals who provide abortion and reproductive health care.

The Freedom to Travel for Healthcare Act, along with the Women’s Health Protection Act, represent putting our Colorado values into votes and actions.  We applaud Representatives Ed Perlmutter, Joe Neguse, and Jason Crow for voting for these bills today. And we especially want to thank Representative Diana DeGette, a committed champion of abortion rights, for her work on this legislation.”
