COBALT APPLAUDS POLIS EXECUTIVE ORDER PROTECTING

ABORTION ACCESS IN COLORADO

Denver – Cobalt, Colorado’s largest and oldest abortion rights advocacy organization with more than 175,000 members statewide, today applauded Governor Jared Polis for his Executive Order protecting abortion access in Colorado.

“We thank Governor Polis for his leadership and for putting our Colorado values on abortion rights and access into action,” said Cobalt President Karen Middleton. “This executive order is so important because it ensures providers and patients both living in and coming to Colorado for abortion care will be protected. It is a sign of hope and optimism at a time we all need one.

This is why we passed the Reproductive Health Equity Act (HB22-1279) – to ensure that abortion access is protected statewide and to make Colorado a safe haven for people who want and need abortion care. Patients and providers now have the assurance of legal protection in Colorado. And it’s significant that this order expedites licensure requirements to allow more abortion providers to serve patients. We have seen a tripling in the requests for help from the Cobalt Abortion Fund since the Supreme Court overturned Roe.

We appreciate the Governor recognizing the urgency of the situation and actions today moving us further forward on abortion access. Now is the time to use every method we have at our disposal to protect abortion rights.”
