COBALT STATEMENT ON THE NOMINATION OF AMY CONEY BARRETT TO THE SUPREME COURT

Denver – Cobalt President Karen Middleton today issued the following statement in response to the announcement President Trump has nominated Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court.

“Coloradans strongly support the Constitutional right to abortion decided in Roe v. Wade nearly 50 years ago. This is a fundamental part of our Colorado values.

It is clear from her rulings and judicial writing that Judge Barrett does not share our Colorado values, and was chosen because she meets Trump’s litmus test of only nominating Justices who will overturn Roe. We will strongly oppose her nomination, we will urge our 70,000 members statewide to oppose her nomination, and we will ask them to contact Senators Bennet and Garder and tell them to vote no on her nomination.

We will hold our Senators accountable for their votes. We will actively work to defeat candidates and elected officials who are not pro-abortion rights at the state and federal level.

And we will redouble our efforts to defeat the abortion ban on the Colorado ballot, Proposition 115. Colorado remains a state where patients can access abortion care without political restrictions, and we intend to keep it that way.”
